HDSUNFLOWER + INVISIBLE DISABILITIES
In 2016, in England, the organization HD Sunflower introduced the idea of a global symbol for invisible disabilities. The symbol, represented by a sunflower lanyard, is now used worldwide.
It serves as a simple tool for individuals to voluntarily share that they have a disability or condition that may not be immediately visible and that they might need assistance, understanding, or extra time in stores, workplaces, transportation, or public spaces.
On July 17, 2023, Brazil enacted Law No. 14,624 (amending the Statute of Persons with Disabilities) to officially establish the use of sunflower-patterned lanyards as a means of identifying individuals with hidden disabilities.

Having a hidden disability without identification can lead to awkward and uncomfortable situations.
The lack of awareness and identification often results in the use of derogatory terms to describe these individuals.
The creative concept of this project connects the visibility of people with disabilities, the use of negative adjectives, and the sunflower lanyard as an identifier. The copy for the final piece aims to capture the viewer’s attention in a powerful way by placing dramatic emphasis on these adjectives.
